Claudia Rapp has been awarded the Wittgenstein prize

Claudia Rapp, professor of Byzantine Studies at the University of Vienna and leader of the Institute for Byzantine Research in the same city, has been awarded the highest academic award in the country, sometimes known as the “Austrian Nobel Prize”: the Wittgenstein prize.

The 2015 award has been hailed as an important sign of appreciation for human sciences in Austria and drawn renewed attention to Vienna as a center for Byzantine research.
